Petroleum coke manufactured by delayed coking of residues obtained from crude oil distillation units of oil refineries is called green or raw petroleum coke. The said green or raw petroleum coke calcined at a temperature 12000 centigrade to 13000 centigrade is known as calcined petroleum coke.

Calcinedoetroleum coke is also used as a feedstock for a wide range of the products such as aluminum, paints, coatings, andcolorings, etc. Calcined petroleum coke is a black-colored solid material primarily comprises of carbon, sulfurmetals, and nonvolatile inorganic compounds. lt offers several advantages such as safe handling, transportationand storage with low toxicity.
