Silicon nitride is a compound of silicon(59.4%) and nitrogen(38.2%). Si3N4 is the most thermodynamically stable of the silicon nitrides. It is a white, high melting solid that is relatively chemically inert. It has a melting point of approximately 2830°C and a density of 3.16 g/cm3. Silicon nitride’s high temperature properties are superior to most metals, combining high strength, creep resistance, and oxidation resistance.

Ferro silicon nitride is a ferroalloy material, a mixture of silicon nitride and iron, usually containing 75% to 80% (w) Si 3 N4, 12% to 17% (w) Fe and no more than 1% (w) free Si and a small amount of other components.
Due to the presence of Si3N4, ferro silicon nitride has excellent properties such as high refractoriness, good erosion resistance, high mechanical strength, good thermal shock resistance, low thermal expansion rate and high oxidation resistance.
